This installation was on the site of a cotton mill in Helmshore Lancashire. The mill was once used for recycling the waste cotton from all the much larger cotton mills in Lancashire when the textile industry was in it’s heyday. The mill only closed in the late 1970’s but it is still producing cotton today from the stock of waste it holds. The work I installed was part of the national opening of museums at night – Night Sites – The installation was constructed purely from the cotton produced at the mill. As part of the opening night activities a workshop was provided for visitors using the cotton thread.
